The Arizona Cardinals have added another candidate to their list of second interviews for the head coaching position. Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is scheduled for an interview on Tuesday night, as reported by NFL Network. The Rams were eliminated from the playoffs after losing in the NFC Championship game on Sunday.
LaFleur joins Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, both of whom have already had reported second interviews with the Cardinals.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter commented on the “Pat McAfee Show” that he expects all remaining coaching vacancies—including those with the Cardinals, Browns, Raiders, and Bills—to be filled this week, possibly by Wednesday. “I expect all the remaining coaching vacancies — Cardinals, Browns, Raiders, Bills — to be filled this week, perhaps even by Wednesday,” Schefter said.
The NFL prefers that no coaching announcements are made during Super Bowl week, which is set for next week.
The Arizona Cardinals are recognized as the oldest continuously operating professional football team in the United States. The franchise began in 1898 in Chicago and now represents the Phoenix area. Home games are played in Glendale, Arizona, and the team competes in the NFC West division of the National Football League (official website). The Cardinals have won NFL championships in 1925 and 1947 and secured an NFC championship in 2008.
