The Arizona Cardinals have begun their search for a new head coach, extending interview requests to several candidates, according to reports. The team has reached out to Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who previously served as the Cardinals’ defensive coordinator under Kliff Kingsbury; 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh; Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver; Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak; and Patriots passing game coordinator Thomas Brown.
Per NFL rules, the first round of interviews must be conducted virtually. The Cardinals are able to interview all candidates except Saleh this week because the Broncos and Seahawks have byes. Coaches from teams participating in Wild Card games, such as the 49ers, will be available for interviews next week. In-person interviews cannot begin before January 19.
In addition to the Cardinals, six other teams have head coach openings following the Ravens’ decision to fire John Harbaugh on Tuesday. These teams include the Ravens, Giants, Titans, Falcons, Browns, and Raiders.
The Arizona Cardinals are based in Glendale and represent the Phoenix area as part of the NFC West division of the NFL. They are recognized as the oldest continuously operating professional football franchise in the United States and trace their origins back to 1898. The team plays its home games in Glendale and has won NFL championships in 1925 and 1947 as well as an NFC championship in 2008 (https://www.azcardinals.com/).
The coaching search comes at a time when multiple franchises are looking for new leadership ahead of the next season.
