At a recent gathering of the Arizona Cardinals, veteran Calais Campbell was humorously dubbed “Mr. 110” by his teammates. The nickname initially puzzled defensive lineman Darius Robinson until he realized it referred to Campbell’s career sack count. Reflecting on his own record, Robinson remarked with humor, “I’ve only got one sack… I’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Campbell is part of several offseason acquisitions for the Cardinals’ defensive line, which also includes first-round pick Walter Nolen III. However, expectations are high for Robinson, who was a first-round pick in 2024 but had his rookie season cut short by a calf injury.

Robinson managed to return for six games at the end of last season but felt he wasn’t performing at his best. “I felt like in training camp, the tape was hot,” Robinson stated. He aims to regain that form as the new season approaches.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon acknowledged Robinson’s efforts during the offseason: “(Darius) has worked extremely hard this offseason, he looks good, he’s ready to go.” Gannon emphasized continuous improvement for all players and expressed confidence in Robinson making significant progress this year.

Despite challenges last year—including losing his mother—Robinson is optimistic about moving forward. He shared how personal adversities affected him: “Last year was the hardest year of my life but it was the best year… I definitely felt the lowest but I also felt the highest.”

Embracing life in Phoenix and integrating into its community have been important steps for Robinson. He’s committed to improving both on and off the field as he leaves behind a tumultuous rookie season.

“I feel I have a lot to prove,” said Robinson. His journey involves personal growth and professional development as he aims to make an impact similar to other players who excelled after their initial setbacks.

As he continues working towards these goals, Robinson remains determined: “At my lowest I kept showing up each day… Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and just go.” With aspirations of contributing significantly more sacks than before, he’s focused on making substantial strides in his career with the Cardinals.
