The Arizona Cardinals’ search for a new head coach continues as the team considers candidates who are still active in this year’s Super Bowl. According to multiple reports, the Cardinals are set to interview Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak for a second time. The Las Vegas Raiders, also seeking a head coach, will meet with Kubiak as well.
Kubiak is expected to host both teams in Seattle over the weekend before the Seahawks depart for the Super Bowl on Sunday. This schedule means all interviews must be completed by Saturday evening. Both the Cardinals and Raiders have informed other candidates that there remains one final interview to be conducted.
Last year, the Cardinals interviewed Jonathan Gannon immediately after the Super Bowl and quickly made their hiring decision. In that cycle, general manager Monti Ossenfort had only recently been appointed following the initial coaching interview window. This year, having already spoken with Kubiak once, the Cardinals are able to proceed with another meeting while his team prepares for the championship game.
The organization has also reportedly held second interviews with Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LeFleur and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. Additional in-person discussions have included Raheem Morris and Ron Rivera. The situation is expected to become clearer by the end of this weekend.
The Arizona Cardinals represent the Phoenix area and play home games in Glendale, Arizona as part of the NFC West division of the National Football League (NFL), according to their official website. The franchise was established in 1898 in Chicago and is recognized as the oldest continuously operating professional football team in the United States. The team has won NFL championships in 1925 and 1947 and claimed an NFC championship in 2008.
