It’s been several months since Kyzir White announced his departure from the Cardinals on social media, and weeks since quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over jersey No. 7, previously worn by White during his two-year tenure as an inside linebacker.
Until recently, there had been little discussion about changes at the inside linebacker position. Coach Jonathan Gannon addressed the transition when asked how the team was adjusting to losing a key defensive player.
“He (was) a captain so that’s a challenge from a leadership standpoint, and the defense,” Gannon stated. “But we feel really good where we are at right now. We’re going to try a lot of guys out there. If they deserve a role they will have a role.”
The Cardinals have signed Akeem Davis-Gaither and Mykal Walker, drafted Cody Simon, and still consider Owen Pappoe as options to work alongside Mack Wilson Sr. The outcome of these changes will be closely watched during the offseason, especially after various upgrades were made across the defense.
Kyzir White remains a free agent but is recognized for his significant contributions on the field in Arizona and for aiding in implementing the cultural shift initiated by Gannon upon his arrival.
