Budda Baker, a seasoned NFL player entering his ninth season, recently shared insights during a press conference about his evolving role as a mentor within the Arizona Cardinals. Reflecting on his experiences, Baker expressed a newfound understanding of imperfection among teammates.
“I kind of had to not be as angry when guys are messing things up,” Baker stated. “That’s when I kind of got hot with the second or third time messing it up. Just understanding that those guys are trying hard. Everyone wanted to do their job.”
The Cardinals have seen significant changes in their cornerback lineup under Jonathan Gannon’s leadership, aiming to rebuild the position with younger talent. Garrett Williams has transitioned from being a newcomer to an essential veteran presence in this evolving group.
Recent injuries, such as Sean Murphy-Bunting’s, have further reduced experience in the team’s cornerback roster. However, with new talents like Max Melton and Will Johnson drafted in consecutive years, there is an expectation for these players to step into starting roles promptly.
Baker emphasized the importance of this offseason period for team development and cohesion. He noted that by the time the season begins, he aims to “have my full trust in everybody.”
