Banner Estrella Medical Center has received its third consecutive Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Commission on Magnet Recognition, according to a March 27 announcement. The recognition places Banner Estrella among a small group of hospitals nationwide known for high-quality nursing, strong patient outcomes, and organizational leadership.
The Magnet designation is considered the highest national honor for professional nursing practice. Fewer than 10 percent of hospitals in the United States hold this status, and only about 15 percent of those have earned redesignation three times in a row. This achievement highlights Banner Estrella’s ongoing commitment to excellence in care.
“This achievement is a powerful reflection of the commitment, compassion, and professionalism our nurses bring to every patient, every day,” said Wendi Sears, RN, chief nursing officer at Banner Estrella. “Magnet recognition represents the gold standard for nursing, and this redesignation confirms that our teams consistently deliver the highest-quality and safest care.”
The process for earning Magnet redesignation involves evaluating areas such as clinical outcomes, leadership in nursing practice, collaboration between disciplines, innovation efforts, and safety culture. During its latest review cycle, Banner Estrella was recognized for strong performance across outcome measures including infection prevention in hospitals and workplace safety.
Sears said that receiving Magnet status is an accomplishment shared by all staff members at Banner Estrella. “This designation reflects not only the expertise of our bedside nurses, but the collective commitment of every team member who supports a culture where nurses can thrive, innovate, and lead,” she said. “We are incredibly proud to continue serving our community at this distinguished level.”
Other facilities within Banner Health have also earned Magnet designations such as Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert as well as both Phoenix- and Tucson-based university medical centers.
