The Arizona Cardinals began their voluntary strength and conditioning program on April 7, marking the first time new head coach Mike LaFleur addressed the team in person. The session at the Dignity Health Training Center offered players a glimpse into LaFleur’s leadership style and set expectations for the upcoming season.

The start of offseason activities is important for establishing team identity and integrating both returning players and newcomers. The Arizona Cardinals are a professional football team in the NFC West division, according to the official website. Outside linebacker Zaven Collins said, “It was awesome. He takes control of the room. He was a great leader today and guys were bought in. Guys were cheering, having a great time already, and it’s day one.” Collins noted that while teams do not win championships during spring workouts, these sessions lay groundwork for future success.

Changes were made to the strength and conditioning staff as Kyle Sammons took over as lead coach in that area. Adjustments to pre-workouts and training sessions now include more explanations about their purpose. Collins said this approach helps make players better prepared for competition.

In meeting rooms, emphasis has shifted toward mastering fundamentals such as executing huddles correctly. Center Hjalte Froholdt said, “I think the whole point is that everything is a big deal…How about we just figure out how we get in the freaking huddle and we are all on the same page…because if the first group isn’t on the same page, well then the rest of people can’t follow along.” Froholdt added later, “The whole goal is to come here to win the Super Bowl,” but stressed setting expectations early through attention to detail.

LaFleur’s approach echoes his earlier remarks about avoiding late play calls and ensuring operational clarity through clean huddles—a sentiment he shared during his introductory press conference.

The Arizona Cardinals serve fans across greater Phoenix from their home base in Glendale, Arizona according to their official website. They are recognized as both an NFC championship-winning franchise from 2008 and as one of football’s oldest continuously operating professional teams according to information available on their official site.
