On April 9, Maricopa County celebrated the groundbreaking of Casa Del Sol, a new affordable housing project in Wickenburg. This initiative aims to address the growing need for affordable housing in the small town located in the northwest corner of the county.

"We are seeing more families get priced out of the housing market and fall into homelessness and that is just unacceptable," expressed Supervisor Clint Hickman, District 4. He further added, "Maricopa County is proud to partner with the Town of Wickenburg to support households in need by building affordable single-family homes and offering down payment assistance."

Maricopa County allocated over $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for the Casa Del Sol project. This financial support includes contributions towards infrastructure, construction costs, and down payment assistance for eligible families.

The development will consist of 16 affordable single-family homes, offering three different floor plan options to cater to varying household needs. These homes will be available to families earning at or below 120 percent of the Area Median Income, ensuring affordability for those with limited financial resources.

In addition to providing housing, Maricopa County will offer housing counseling and homebuyer education classes to support prospective homebuyers through the purchasing process.

Supervisor Hickman highlighted that this project is part of Maricopa County's broader efforts to address the affordable housing crisis in the region. To learn more about Maricopa County's initiatives in funding affordable housing projects, individuals can visit Maricopa.gov/Housing.
