Chairman Jack Sellers of Maricopa County has been awarded the 2024 WTS Honorable Ray LaHood or “Man of the Year” Award for his dedication to advancing women in the transportation sector. Sellers expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am very honored to have even been considered for this award.” He emphasized his commitment to infrastructure and transportation, noting, “I have made infrastructure and transportation a cornerstone of my career and this work has led me to engage with countless inspirational women who are some of the best and brightest in the transportation field.”
Sellers, who represents District 1 and has been a driving force in advocating for intelligent infrastructure and technology-forward policies, has been instrumental in shaping Arizona’s vibrant economy. His leadership roles include serving as Chair of the State Transportation Board and being a member of the National Association of Counties Transportation Committee. He has also been a member and past Chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments Transportation Policy Committee.
In his role as a member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors since February 2019, Sellers has been actively involved in various initiatives to enhance the state's infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of strategic planning for Arizona's growth, stating, “As Arizona grows, we must continue thinking strategically about how to optimize our infrastructure and roadways.”
Chairman Sellers, a prominent figure in the transportation sector, expressed his enthusiasm for upcoming projects such as the construction of the I-11 corridor and the SR-24 extension into Pinal County. Sellers was presented with the prestigious award at the WTS Metro Phoenix 2024 Annual Scholarship and Awards Ceremony, an event that celebrates transportation leaders in Arizona and supports young women pursuing careers in the industry through scholarships. WTS International, formerly known as the Women’s Transportation Seminar, has been dedicated to advancing women in the transportation industry since 1977.
